BURKINA / BENIN / TOGO
15 days / 14 nights

You will cross eastern area of Burkina to go dicovering Benin: the Atakora and its Tata Sombas, the Dahomey's Kingdom and the Vaudou's country... It is a land marked by history and "magic".
Then, going trough a small country as Togo, you should appreciate the various reliefs and the succession of landscapes wich will embellish your trip. You will discover different ethnic groups wich had a very old past...


DAY 1:
Arrival in Ouagadougou. Night in the Grand Calao.

DAY 2:
Departure for the east of the Burkina. Lunch in a local restaurant in FADA N’GOURMA (capital of the Gourmantche’s country and the last biggest town before the Niger’s border). Dinner and night in the KOMPIENGA hotel, near a dam it called, not far from the Benin’s border.

DAY 3:
After breakfast, departure for the north of Benin and discovery of the Somba’s villages. The Sombas are an ethnic group who lived in a mountainous area called ATAKORA, in a kind of farm-fortress ( Tata Sombas ), highly characterized by their architecture. Dinner and night in Tata Somba’s hotel in NATITTINGOU.

DAY 4:
We will go through the district of DASSA, a holy place devoted to the pilgrimage of the Black Virgin. The town is built around spectacular rocks. Later on, we will stop over in SAVE and, may be, meet the King. Dinner and night in the inn of Dassa.

DAY 5:
Visit of the royal palace of ABOMEY, the historical capital of Dahomey’s Kingdom. Some beautiful art objects will remember us the prestigious period of Dahomey’s Kings. Thanks to a dugout canoe, we will visit GANVIE, a lakeside city of 40,000 inhabitants on the lagoon : floating market, huts on piles…Dinner and night in the Port hotel in COTONOU.

DAY 6:
Tour of the town of COTONOU : craftsmen’s center, market. Tour of PORTO-NOVO, administrative capital of Benin (the ethnographic museum, the Royal Palace). In the afternoon, we will take the road for GRAND POPO. Dinner and night in the Grand Popo’s encampment, near the beach, under the coconut trees.

DAY 7:
Full day to visit the fishers villages on the AHEME’s lake and relaxation on the beach. Dinner and night in the Grand Popo’s encampment.

DAY 8:
Tour of the town of OUIDAH : Python’s Temple, Sacred Forest, slaves door ; we will cover the road of slavery. Departure for LOME (the capital of Togo), then discovery of the famous fetish market of BE. Dinner and night in the Veronica Guest House.

DAY 9:
After a tour of the town, we will leave Lome for KPALIME. Through landscapes covered of luxuriant vegetation, we will visit the craftsmen’s school (the main craftsmen’s center of TOGO: pottery, sculpture, batik) ; visit of the highest viewpoint of the country: the AGOLL’s mount…. We will spend the night in the Cristal Hotel.

DAY 10:
Stop over at the KPIME’s waterfall and in the small colored and picturesque village’s markets. After the visit of ELAVAGNON (meeting with the chief), we will take a mountain track to admire the most important waterfall of Togo, at BADOU. Dinner and night in the Roc hotel in ATAKPAME, after the discovery of the German’s colonial buildings.

DAY 11:
Early morning, we will make a detour to the historical’s ruins of KAMINA, and then to the hippopotamus pond of ATCHINEDJI. Thanks to a track we will joined the road for the discovery of the first ELEVAGNON where we will visit some blacksmith ; then night in SOKODE in Essofa hotel.

DAY 12:
Early meeting with the chief of KPARATAOU’s district. Discovery of the famous ALEDJO’s fault. Then visit of the town of KETAO and it’s market. We will go to admire the YAKA’s waterfall and take the track until KANDE. After the lunch we will cross the Tamberma’s country (small ethnic group who lived in fortifies houses which remember us the Tata Somba’s). Dinner and night in the DAPAONG’s encampment.

DAY 13:
Discovery of the famous NANO’s caves, then crossing the border at SENKENSE TOGO and SENKENSE B.F. where we will have to do the formalities. We will find again BURKINA FASO for the dinner and spending the night in TENKODOGO (the first capital of Mossi’s empire, the largest ethnic group of the country).

DAY 14:
Town trip of TENKODOGO and meeting the customer’s chiefs of the district, then crossing KOUPELA. Stop over in LAONGO where we will admire a real open-air museum where sculptors, coming from different countries, have cut the rock to give rise to contemporary sculptures. Arrival in Ouagadougou, night in the Grand Calao.

DAY 15:
Tour of OUAGADOUGOU with its bronze makers, its market and its craftsmen’s center. Lunch in town and departure for the airport.
